SIVASAGAR, Feb 26 - The All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers & Employees Association(AAHSTEA) in a release condemned the indecent behaviour of Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Vivekananda Phukan towards a primary school teacher named Ajit Deb of Panbari LP School of Borhat on February 17 on the pretext that the teacher failed to attend a meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner on time.
The association demanded an apology from the Deputy Commissioner before the concerned teacher.
In the meantime, Himadrijyoti Dutta and Anisur Rahman, president and secretary of AAHSTEA in a release on Friday said that a section of Government officers had been trying to put the entire blame for achieving C and D grade in Gunotsav on the teachers of the respective schools alone without going indepth into the numerous problems like poor infrastructure and faulty policy.
Meanwhile, thousands of primary school teachers and members of All Assam Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani all over the State carried out a strike on February 21 against the alleged ill treatment meted out to Ajit Deb, who was humiliated and subsequently manhandled by the Deputy Commissioners security personnel before being sent to the police station.
The meeting under reference was convened for discussing matters related to schools getting D grade in the second phase of Gunotsav. The teachers of Charaideo district temporarily suspended the agitation against the Deputy Commissioner and boycotted a meeting convened by him in Sonari recently.
Several other organisations, including AASU, ATASU, AJYCP, Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad, Charaideo Zilla Karmachari Parishad, All Assam High School Teachers Association, Charaideo Press Guild and Citizens Forum in a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged the Government to resolve the impasse amicably in the greater interest of the newly-formed district.
Further, the Sikshak Sanmilani dashed off a memorandum to the Education Minister demanding action against Deputy Commissioner Vivekananda Phukan.
