Teacher kidnapped in Garo Hills

By Correspondent

TURA, Jan 21 - After a lull of over a year, cross border criminals today kidnapped a 42 year-old SSA upper primary teacher from Megua Songma village under Dimapara outpost in South Garo Hills district.

According to police, at about 2.50 am this morning, a group of about five criminals enetered the house of Etwilthon D Sangma and overpowered the inmates. The kidnappers after tying up the family abducted the teacher and are suspected to have crossed the border into Bangladesh.

The house is a little isolated from the nearby village and so they were easy targets. As the family seemed better off than the rest it seems a case of preplanned kidnapping. We have mobilised our forces immediately though we have been unable to nab the criminals, said SP, SGH, AT Sangma.

The gang also took away a motorcycle belonging to the family along with mobile phones of all members except that of the victim. The abandoned motorcycle was later recovered by the police about 5 km from the spot. Sources stated that no demand was made to the family of the victim as yet.
