Teacher held on charges of molestation

ITANAGAR, Sept 20 � The police has arrested a school teacher on charges of molesting and sexually harassing under-age girl students of a leading residential school at Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

The shocking incident that reportedly occurred at the private-run Saint Xaviers International School, Aalo for last couple of months came to light only when the parents of two victims lodged a complaint with Aalo police station. Basing on the complaint, the accused was arrested from the school on September 13 last, disclosed the West Siang district Superintendent of Police Mari Riba.

The accused, identified as 31-year-old Prabhat Kumar Yadav, a native of Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, has been sent to seven days� police remand after being produced before a local court, the SP informed.

A case under section 8/10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been registered at the Aalo PS and the investigation into the incident was underway, informed the SP. He, however, denied knowledge of the number of victimised children and their age bracket.

In a similar incident, a teacher-cum-warden of the private-run Green Valley Residential School at Likabali, Vipin Wisvan, was arrested in August 2013 on the charges of raping and molesting 14 minor girl students, for three years. The heinous crime had then evoked strong protests across the State.
