Tea planters� bodies meet Himanta

GUWAHATI, Sept 5 - Representatives of the tea planters� associations today met State�s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on issues concerning the present crisis faced by the tea industry.

According to information available with this newspaper, the delegation of the tea planters� associations � Indian Tea Association (ITA), North Eastern Tea Association (NETA), Tea Association of India (TAI), Assam Tea Planters� Association (ATPA) and the Bharatiya Cha Parishad (BCP) � also discussed the probable solutions to the crisis faced by the tea industry.

Former Labour Minister of the State and presently a Lok Sabha MP Pallab Lochan Das was also present during the meeting.

The Finance Minister discussed in detail the probable steps to help the industry overcome the crisis.

It was agreed in the meeting that some of the factors connected with the present crisis of the tea industry are to be taken up with the Union Government, while some others are to be taken up with the State Government. With the support of both the State and the Union Governments, the tea industry can expect formulation of effective bailout formulae.
