Tea owner Jalan among five arrested in land scam case

DIBRUGARH, May 11 - Mrigendra Jalan, the chairman of Bharatiya Chah Parishad (BCP), a tea planters� body and also the proprietor of Jalan tea estates here, was arrested today by police in an alleged criminal forgery case. Four others � Nem Chand Kejriwal, Sharda Devi Kejriwal, Anil Kejriwal and advocate Swagata Kundu Paul were also arrested in the same case under Dibrugarh PS Case (No. 763/19 u/s 120B/465/467/468/471/472/34 IPC.

The FIR was lodged with the police by Dibrugarh Sub Registry office in connection with the alleged forgery in �land sale permission� documents. All those arrested had moved for bail but their bail plea was rejected. The Jail Superintendent at the Dibrugarh Central Jail was instructed to provide the necessary medical treatment. According to the police, more people are expected to be arrested in the case.
