DOOMDOOMA, May 30 - The Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS) has announced a series of agitation against Warren Tea Limited for non-payment of arrear salary and its unilateral decision to deduct 30 per cent from the salary of March and April on the pretext of lockdown.
A press release issued by Rishav Kalita, secretary of Tingri circle of ACKS, stated that the employees under registered offices of Balijan North, Dewhal, Hatimora, Tara, Rupai, Sealkutee and Duamara, in a meeting held on May 25 through video conferencing, resolved to initiate a series of agitation beginning from June 5 and subsequently submitted a memorandum with a 9-point charter of demands to the president (operation) of Dewhal-based registered office on Friday.
According to the finalised agitation programme, the employees will wear black badges on June 5 and 6 and resort to the beating of utensils in front of respective offices from June 9 to 11. The workers will abstain from work on June 15 and 16. The present phase of agitation will culminate with the staging of a hunger strike for nine hours on June 17, the release stated.
Kalita, in the press release, stated that the company as per agreement failed in its commitment of releasing the second instalment of 30 per cent arrears before March 31.
It also halted time-bound promotion and blocked fresh employment. Despite several appeals made by the ACKS, the company did not pay any heed to release travelling allowances for the employees and pension benefits to its retired employees, Kalita alleged.
