GUWAHATI, March 19 � A delegation of the Chah Janagosthi Jatiya Mahasabha has pleaded before Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for steps to grant land to the tea community people, said an official press release here.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister at his Koinadhara official residence here yesterday evening, the Mahasabha delegation also pleaded for scopes for employment of the jobless people of these communities, arrangements for supply of safe drinking water in the labour lines of the tea estates, reservation of seats for the students of these communities in the institutions of higher education, steps to check all possibilities of forgery in issuing tea community certificates, among others.
The delegation also took up the issue of minimum wages for the tea workers of the State.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that his government would consider the pleas made by the Mahasabha.
