By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Feb 27 Hundreds of irate workers of Ghograjan Tea Estate under Lahoal PS today vandalised the bungalow of the proprietor Bikash Chowkhani following a physical attack on Jeevan Kamar, a tractor driver by Chowkhani in the tea factory premises.

On hearing about the attack, the workers, mostly women assembled and decided to confront the proprietor. The irate workers resolved that they would seek an explanation from Chowkhani for such cruelty on them time after time, Hemanta Kujur, Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) branch secretary of Lahoal told this correspondent. However, Chowkhani, anticipating retaliation, had already left the house, Kujur said.

On not finding the proprietor, the workers reportedly became violent and damaged furniture, windows and whatever they could lay their hands on. The number of workers began to swell and were about to destroy the plantation office and factory, but the ATTSA leaders reportedly intervened and restrained them. Meanwhile, police and CRPF have been rushed to the area to prevent any further violence.

Kujur told this correspondent that the proprietor used to often behave with the workers in a provocative manner.
