DIBRUGARH, June 20 - Tea garden workers of Mancotta tea estate today gheraoed the Sadar PS in protest against alleged rape of a woman aged 25 of the tea garden by one Anirban Gogoi (27) alias Kukuli, son of Prodip Gogoi of nearby Teporgaon village under Milannagar police out post.

Although police arrested the accused last night, the tea garden workers led by local leaders of Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA) today demanded that the culprit be booked and punished for rape.

However, as per the statement of the victim, police said that it was a case of molestation. �The young woman was working as a domestic help in the house of the accused since last few months. She was lured into the interior tea garden on a motorcycle by the accused. She was then molested and was not raped as she managed to escape from the accused,� said Siddheswar Bora, the Officer in-charge of the Sadar PS. He said that a case no. 785/17 u/s 354 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Police Station.
