TDA chairman relinquishes office

By Bureau

DIBRUGARH, Aug 24 - Tinsukia Development Authority (TDA) chairman Pronab Baruah today relinquished his charge, as the State Government did not grant him office term extension, which many were expecting. Addressing mediapersons at Tinsukia this afternoon, Baruah said he thanks all those who have helped the TDA to build solid social infrastructure in the industrial town in the past five years.

During Baruahs five year stint, several infrastructure projects were taken up in Tinsukia, and several of these have already been commissioned. These include an indoor stadium, cultural complexes, infrastructure development of Tinsukias newest address, Lankeswar Gohain Nagar, development of the Tinsukia District Library, just to name a few.

A pet project of Baruah, the proposed Transport Nagar, has just been approved for construction, and work is scheduled to begin soon. In fact Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to lay this ambitious projects foundation stone this Friday. Once completed, it would be the northeasts best truck terminal, with all ancillary facilities.

One will also have to take into account the various beautification measures initiated by Baruah during his chairmanship of TDA. One of the better examples is the Dr Bhupen Hazarika memorial park at the busy Thana Chariali traffic junction of the town. The facility was inaugurated last year with much fanfare. Today, it is a bustling jaunt for the young and musically inclined.

Baruah said he hopes his successor will continue to develop social and cultural infrastructure in the commercial town, for the benefit of the people.
