GUWAHATI, March 21 Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced that a Centrally-assisted special task force will be formed for the Kaziranga National Park to prevent poaching of one-horned rhinos.
Javadekar also said the anti-poaching law will be amended very soon so that it acts as a deterrent to such illegal activities. A joint action plan will be drafted in New Delhi in consultation with forest officials of the Kaziranga National Park and State government officials against poaching of rhinos, he said.
If needed, funds will be diverted from the Tiger Project. A joint action plan will be drafted and both the Centre and the State government will act in unison, Javadekar said. For better surveillance, we have activated 31 Rhino Mitras (rhino friends), who will keep a tab on the vulnerable areas.
