Task force for Covid vaccination takes stock of preparations

JORHAT, Dec 29 - The Majuli district administration has geared up for the proposed free COVID-19 vaccination drive expected to be carried out nationwide.

In this regard a district-level task force has been formed and headed by Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi.

A Majuli district administration official informed this newspaper that the task force having the Joint Director of Health Services Dr Nilakanta Pegu as member-secretary, has Superintendent of Police Aparna Natarajan, CEO of Majuli Zila Parishad Naranarayan Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Arindam Baruah, has chalked out a plan.

The other members of the taskforce are NHM District Project Officer, two revenue circle officers, heads of several government departments, sector representatives of WHO, UNDP and NCC, besides NSS representatives.

The official stated that on Monday the task force under the chairmanship of Kairi met for the first time and discussed about the preparations under way for successful implementation of the proposed vaccination drive.

It may be mentioned here that necessary training for carrying out the vaccination campaign has already been given to the concerned doctors and supporting staff and Health Department workers.

The official informed that the vaccination drive will be done in three phases as per Central government instructions in this regard.

In the first phase, the frontline warriors engaged in the fight against COVID-19 will be covered under the plan, the official informed, adding that doctors, health workers, ASHA workers, Anganwadi centre workers and helpers and Social Welfare Department supervisors fall in the said category.

In the second phase, police officers and staff, Home Guards, Village Defence Party members, will be vaccinated, the official informed.

The official further disclosed that in the third phase of the drive, people above 50 years of age having high risk of deterioration of health, if infected by COVID-19 virus and also people below 50 years suffering from diabetes, heart ailments and asthma, who too have the possibility of developing critical health conditions, if infected, will be covered.
