GUWAHATI, Nov 2 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who was discharged from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) a week ago after a two-month-long stay, has been readmitted to the hospital after he complained of restlessness last night. The 86-year-old three-time Chief Minister complained of restlessness on Sunday night and was immediately shifted to the GMCH. He (Gogoi) has been under medical observation and supervision even after he got discharged a week ago and went home. Yesterday evening at around 10:30 pm he started feeling a bit restless. He had problem in breathing. So he was immediately shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU), GMCH superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma said.
A team of doctors examined him. The body was retaining carbon dioxide. That is why there was restlessness. Oxygen saturation is now being maintained at 96 per cent on non-invasive ventilation (NIV). It is not invasive ventilation, he said. Since morning we have carried out investigations. He is serious and he is now in the ICU but he is haemodynamically stable. He is now much better than in the morning, Dr Sarma said, adding that the carbon dioxide level in Gogois body was very high during the morning hours but has since come down.
A nine-member team of doctors is monitoring Gogois health and at this moment there is no plan to shift the former Chief Minister to any medical facility outside the State.
The veteran Congress leader was first admitted to the GMCH on August 26 after he tested positive for COVID-19. Later, after recovering from COVID-19, Gogoi had developed some post-COVID complications.
He was discharged from the GMCH on October 25 after spending two months at the place.
