Tarun Duvarah Oil Award to Biju Phukan, Tapan Bardoloi

GUWAHATI, May 1 � Actor Biju Phukan and artist Tapan Bardoloi have been chosen for the Tarun Duvarah Memorial Oil India Award-2012.

Announcing this at a press conference today, Kishore Kumar Das, general secretary of Gauhati Artists� Guild, said that the jury for the award comprising eminent artistes and litterateurs and Oil India officials, selected two distinguished personalities � Biju Phukan and Tapan Bardoloi -- who had made stellar contributions in the spheres of performing art and visual art respectively.

The award which comprises a citation, a memento, a maanbastra and Rs 1.5 lakh each, will be presented to the duo at a function at the Rabindra Bhawan on May 21. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be the chief guest on the occasion.

The award has been instituted by Oil India Limited with support from Gauhati Artists� Guild.

Veteran actor Biju Phukan who has been in the Assamese film industry for over four decades, remains one of the best-known film personalities of the region. Tapan Bardoloi, one of the top artists of Assam, was an alumnus of Santiniketan, and is currently the honorary principal of Art Class, Gauhati Artists� Guild. He is a pioneer of the traditional art of the State, showcasing it successfully before a national audience.
