Tarani Barman remembered

GUWAHATI, March 5 - The Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) today organised a memorial meeting of well-known sports photographer Tarani Kanta Barman who died on February 22.

Recalling Barman�s contribution towards sports photography, veteran journalist Premadhar Sharma said, he was the pioneer of sports photography in the State who clicked some very valuable photos which were published in the leading newspapers in 1960s. �He was such a person who could make friendship with people of all sections,� Sharma said.

Former senior bureaucrat Swapnanil Baruah said, Barman�s unique photographs, particularly of Bordoloi Trophy should be preserved as the tournament earned nationwide glamour during 1960s and 70s.

Speakers like former international athlete Tayabun Nesa, sports organisers Taher Ahmed, Balendra Mohan Chakravorty, senior sports journalist Subodh Malla Baruah also spoke on Tarani Barman and paid homage to the photo journalist.

Sportspersons Sankar Dutta Lahkar, Kalyan Kumar Das, Khanin Dutta, Paragdhar Konwar, among others were present on the occasion.
