GUWAHATI, April 24 - Assam girl Tanisha Kashyap qualified for the Road to Wimbledon UK HSBC National Finals to be held on the grass at Wimbledon in August this year after winning the Road to Wimbledon Junior Masters at Kolkata recently.
Aimed at boosting the development of junior tennis in India, the Road to Wimbledon is a tournament for players aged Under 14. The top 16 boys and girls from across the four qualifying events held at Indore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai respectively were invited to the Road to Wimbledon Junior Masters in Kolkata.
Assam�s Tanisha who is currently ranked number one in the country since the start of this year, continued her fine form by winning the Masters title against Maharashtra�s Sharanya Gaware in the final. Both the girls will be representing India in the Road to Wimbledon UK HSBC National Finals be held in August.
The top 16 players played at the Masters on a league cum knock out format on the grass courts of Calcutta South Tennis Club.
Tanisha is the first Assamese girl to achieve the remarkable feat. She is the elder daughter of Suresh Kalita and Ruby Talukdar Kalita of Chechamukh, Hajo.
