Talk on ethnicity, conflict in BTAD area

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 � Keeping in tune with the major contribution by the Indian Army in the last two decades in containing insurgency in Assam, the Red Horns Division recently held a seminar, on �Conflict and reconciliation� at Rangiya. The General Officer Commanding of Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen AK Ahuja, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Uddipanna Goswami, author of the recently published book focusing on BTAD area � Conflict And Reconcilliation, the Politics of Ethnicity in Assam � spoke at length on the issues of ethnicity and conflict in BTAD and the current dynamics. She suggested measures to contain�the conflict that can lead to logical resolution of the problem.

The other speaker, Mridusmita Baruah, a research scholar on BTAD, also presented her thoughts on the issue and gave some very practical and sound ideas leading to resolution of the issue, said an official statement.

The event was attended by the senior commanders of the Red Horns Division and a large number of officers of the formation.

The GOC Gajraj Corps�in his concluding remarks lauded the efforts of General Officer Commanding Red Horns Division in taking a keen initiative to organise such brainstorming sessions, which help commanders at all levels operating in counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism operations to widen their horizon of thinking and intellect.
