GUWAHATI, Dec 3 - Chief advisor of Asom Andolan Sangrami Mancha, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today said that the government, instead of imposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 on the people of Assam, should take up the interests of the persecuted Hindus with its Bangladeshi counterpart.
The Bill, according to Mahanta, will overwrite many important clauses of the Assam Accord, and at the same time, impose additional burden of illegal foreigners on the State, which cannot be accepted.
Speaking to mediapersons today, Mahanta said the Mancha has decided to observe Swahid Divas on December 10 as Protest Day and as part of it, a protest will be staged in Jantar Mantar in New Delhi after offering of swahid tarpan.
We appeal to the Centre to reconsider its decision as it will pose a threat to the language, culture and tradition of the Assamese society, the two-time former Chief Minister said.
Mahanta also criticised the RSS for making irresponsible comments on the Assam Accord.
