Tainted Mangaldai BDO still evading suspension

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Nov 30 - Despite being arrested on charges of graft on October 31 last and subsequently remanded in police custody, Pub Mangaldai Block Development Officer (BDO) Wahidur Rahman has still been evading suspension.

The Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department seems to be least bothered about taking necessary departmental action against the officer.

Rahman was released on bail after almost three weeks, but he has not yet been suspended.

It may be mentioned here that a team of police from the Dhula Police Station on October 31 arrested Rahman, the BDO of the Pub Mangaldai Development Block, on the charge of corruption and forgery in connection with a case (no. 431/17 under section 120 (B)/ 418/ 477 IPC) registered with the Dhula Police Station. The Court here also remanded the arrested officer in three-day police custody for further interrogation.

After spending 21 days in jail, the accused officer was released on bail on November 21 last. As per the provision of the law, the arrested official should have been suspended after spending 48 hours of detention in jail.

Meanwhile, a senior official in the State P&RD Department at Dispur told this correspondent that the accused BDO would soon be suspended. The process of his suspension could not be completed yet due to the unavailability of police report, added the source.
