Tai Sahitya Sabha�s ex-president Manoranjan Phukan no more

SIVASAGAR, Oct 5 - Manoranjan Phukan, former president of Purbanchaliya Tai Sahitya Sabha also known as Tai Sahitya Sabha, Patsaku Tai Academy and Mohan-Deodhai- Bailung Sanmilan, an adviser of All Tai Ahom Students� Union and a noted litterateur, died on his 78th birthday at his Patsaku Akhoiya gaon residence on October 2. Just two days ago, he had lost his wife Minakshi Phukan which had an immediate impact on him and his cardiac failure, family sources said.

Prior to his death, Phukan was suffering from mild fever and the Charaideo district administration had carried out Rapid Antigen Tests of all the members of his family but it brought negative results. Therefore, a huge number of people gathered in his last journey and floral tributes were paid by several organisations including Purbanchaliya Tai Sahitya Sabha, Kendriya Tai Academy, Bokota Sanskritik aru Janakalyan Samity, Mohan-Deodhai -Bailung Pandit Parisad, Charaideo Kobi Sanmilan, Tai Bhasa Adhyan Kendra, Tai Sikhya Sanmilan, Parijat Gaon Panchayat, AASU, ATASU, AJYCP, Khaloighugura Samabai Samity and Patsaku Unnayan Samity. Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Jogen Mohan, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi and several others mourned his death.

Phukan leaves behind two sons and daughters-in-law beside a host of relatives.

In a condolence meeting at Sonari, AASU vice president Manik Gogoi, Raijor Dal convenor Lohit Gogoi, AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family members. Hema Dihingia, general secretary, Nitul Gogoi and Kanak Chandra Neog of Sadou Asom Ahom Sabha also expressed sorrow at the demise.
