Tagore�s birthday celebrated at Pandu

PANDU, May 10 � The 155th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated by various organisations, cultural units and housing apartments in and around Pandu, with great enthusiasm and interest on Saturday. The most important among them was the one held under the patronage of Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, MLA, Jalukbari constituency at NPME school (popularly called Barua�s school) which was graced by the presence of Dr Amalendu Chakrabarty, Deptt of Bengali, GU, who spoke eloquently on the greatness of Tagore and his multi-faceted personality. In this connection, a cultural procession with young boys and girls belonging to different cultural organisations of Pandu, such as Adabari Railway Colony, Rest Camp, Anandanagar, American Colony, etc., moved around Pandu area, presenting songs dances and recitations of Tagore, thereby creating the suitable ambience for paying homage to the great poet. Young members of Manjari Dance Academy of Anandanagar performed Rabindra Nritya under the guidance of Tatini Das, renowned dancer of the State.

Residents of a number of housing complexes of Pandu also observed the day with due solemnity and zeal. The most remarkable celebration was undertaken by the Krishna, Radhakrishna and Gokuldham apartments where birthday tribute was paid to Tagore in a special way. The main attraction was presentation of the poet�s famous dance-drama Balmiki Pratibha by the children of the housing complex, apart from other items like solo dances, Rabindra Sangeet etc., presented by the young and the old alike.
