Swine flu scare in Mizoram

AIZAWL, March 10 � A total of five samples of swine flu suspects from Mizoram have been sent to National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Kolkata today, Nodal Officer of the State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma said.

The latest sample sent to Kolkata was of a non-tribal, recently coming from Delhi who was treated at a private hospital in Aizawl and shifted to ICU in a government hospital after being suspected of H1N1 infection. Altogether five samples of swine flu suspects were sent for diagnosis so far, Lalmalsawma said.

Meanwhile, screening of suspected swine flu patients were being conducted at the Lengpui Airport near Aizawl and at Vairengte town, along the Mizoram-Assam border.

Lalmalsawma said that they are taking necessary preparations to conduct screening at Kanhmun village, along the Tripura border, as Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla also requested the State Health Department officials to undertake screening of people coming from outside the State.

�We would take necessary steps in accordance with the situation in neighbouring States and countries,� he said, adding, the Referral Hospital in Falkawn near Aizawl was prepared for treatment of swine flu patients. � PTI
