Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Award conferred on Hagrama Mohilary

DIBRUGARH, May 27 - Coinciding with the 212th birth anniversary of Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha, a function was organised by the Mottock community under the patronage of the State Government at the Jerai Anchalik Sports Sanstha playground at Jeraigaon in Dibrugarh today where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal conferred BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary with the first Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Award.

Sonowal said that as a tribute to the great Mottock King Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha, the State Government will celebrate the day on May 24 every year. �The Mottock King had served the people irrespective of their religion, colour and community. He showed equal dignity to all. His virtues of love and fellowship must be imitated by the new generation. A change in mindset has to be instilled to bring change in the society,� he said.

Emphasising on the need of diligence and dedication to expedite the development of Assam, Chief Minister Sonowal also mentioned the name of great footballer Babul Phukan of Jeraigaon, who brought laurels to the village as well as the entire State by virtue of his sheer diligence, determination and skill. He also said that the Chair in the name of Srimanta Sankaradeva in Dibrugarh University would be activated further and announced that a sum of Rs 20 lakh would be given to the university for the same, a release stated.

Underlining the stellar role of Anniruddhadev, Damodardev, Sankaradeva and Madhavadeva for the social, cultural and spiritual enrichment of Assam, Sonowal said that his Government has earmarked Rs 1 crore in the current Budget for setting up of the Sri Sri Anniruddhadev Kalakshetra at Tinsukia and assured that his Government would release more funds for the purpose.

He urged the people to maintain constant vigil on the functioning of his Government and give feedback and guidance so that the official machinery remains committed to the welfare of all sections of the people of the State.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary while speaking on the occasion conveyed his gratitude for honouring him with the Swargadeo Sarbananda Sonowal Award and announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the construction of the Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Auditorium.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Ambassador of Laos to India, Southam Sakonhninhom, Member of Parliament Biswajit Daimari, MLA Chandan Brahma, Vinod Hazarika, Sanjay Kisan, Rituporno Baruah and a host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion, the release added.
