KOHORA, May 6 � In a remarkable achievement in terms of good conservation and protective measures, the Kaziranga National Park has witnessed an increase in the population of eastern swamp deer. The 2015 census of the animal recorded 1,129 individuals as against 854 in 2014.
This was revealed by Forest Minister Atuwa Munda here on Monday. He said during the population estimation programme, which had started on May 1 and concluded on May 4, about 328 adult males, 569 adult females, 122 yearlings and 110 fawns of the species were found in the National Park.
Thanking the forest personnel of Kaziranga for their tireless efforts in guarding the National Park, the Forest Minister said that preference would be given to local people of fringe villages for new appointments as guards.
