Swachhata Pakhwara ends at Maligaon-based NFR

GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - A fortnight-long Swachhata Pakhwara organised by the Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) as of part of the special �Swachhata Hi Seva� campaign concluded on Monday.

Radhey Raman, Additional General Manager of NFR said that a number of activities were undertaken during the period and covered railway stations and other railway premises across Assam and the neighbouring States.

Raman said that each day of the Pakhwara was earmarked for specific target-oriented activities.

It started with a special drive to raise awareness among all the railway employees and their family members, as well as the general public, to ensure cleanliness around their habitat.

Among other activities taken up during the fortnight were seminars on sanitation and upkeep of stations, use of posters and pamphlets to promote a litter-free environment and for stopping use of single-use plastic, besides intensive cleanliness drives at all railway stations and trains as well as workplaces.

In addition, drives were conducted to promote preparation of hygienic food by railway units and for promoting use of clean, potable water for passengers and railway employees, besides maintaining cleanliness of toilets in trains and railway premises.

Competitions were also organised among staff, schoolchildren and families of railway employees to inculcate a sense for cleanliness during the Pakhwara, Raman added.
