Suspended employees reinstatement hailed

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - The Assam Secretariat Services Association has expressed its gratitude to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for reinstating its member and senior administrative assistant Chandan Kakati against whose suspension the Association has been fighting.

According to an office order, following an enquiry into the suspension of Kakati by Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Kakati has been reinstated in service and posted in the Secretariat Administration Department pool.

His period of suspension has also been treated as on-duty with effect from the date of his suspension, albeit with advice to be more careful in discharging his official duties in the future. Kakati was suspended on July 12.

We had approached the Chief Minister with a grievance that the Secretariat employee was not only placed under suspension without a valid reason, but was also subjected to abuse and misbehaviour, which cannot be tolerated. We also welcome the decision to treat his period of suspension as on-duty. Employee-friendly initiatives by the government will boost the morale of government employees, Association general secretary Partha Hazarika said.
