Suspended BJP members barred from entering House

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 8 - BJP MLAs today staged a protest in front of the Assam Legislative Assembly gate after they were prevented from entering the premises.

The MLAs were stopped by security personnel from entering the compound.

This happened as 12 BJP MLAs, including seven of the nine who had recently switched over from the Congress to the BJP, were suspended for the Winter Session yesterday for disobeying the Speakers ruling and creating noisy scenes in the Well of the House.

The MLAs blocked the gate and raised slogans against the Government and Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi. The police then forcibly took them away from the gate. The MLAs were later released after being kept in preventive custody for some time.

The BJP MLAs alleged that the Speakers decision to suspend them was influenced by the Treasury bench. They claimed that they were prevented from entering the premises though the suspension did not bar them from coming to the Assembly compound.
