By ANN Service

DIGBOI, Jan 16 - Suspected militants torched nine oil tankers loaded with crude oil coming from Kharsang in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh towards Digboi. The incident occurred at Namchik border police check gate near the Namphai Reserve Forest. No loss of life has yet been reported.

Official sources said that the crude was being transported in tankers from the oilwell site operated jointly by Kharsang-based company GeoEnpro Petroleum and Oil India Limited. Drivers and other staff were ordered to get off the vehicles after several rounds of blank fire and the miscreants then set afire nine out of 10 vehicles. The staff were assaulted and their mobile phones snatched away.

Fire tenders from Digboi, Duliajan, Margherita and Kharsang were rushed to the spot which is surrounded by a thick vegetation cover on all sides.

Todays incident resembles the Tikok colliery violence last month wherein several vehicles of a mining company were torched by suspected NSCN militants.
