Susmita Dev discharged, hails medical fraternity

By Staff correspondent

SILCHAR, July 20 - Twelve days after she tested COVID-19 positive, India Mahila Congress president and former Congress MP from Silchar, Susmita Dev was released from the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Sunday after her latest test on Saturday came out negative. Dev has been prescribed an additional two weeks of home quarantine.

Speaking to The Assam Tribune after stepping out of the hospital, she said, Isolation is an alienating experience and the fight is to see how strong ones immune system is, to be able to cure from within. The medical team including doctors, paramedical staff and the people working at the microbiology department at the hospital are doing phenomenal service to save people. They are no less than the army at the national frontiers.

The conditions under which the medical fraternity is working amidst trying circumstances with impeccable calmness at the testing centre is commendable and inspiring. Wearing the PPE kits for long hours demands a great deal of patience and the medical staff has sacrificed all for the sake of curing patients from the virus, she said.

Dev thanked the Congress leadership and also former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Kabindra Purakayastha for their wishes. She urged people to maintain safety and social distancing to keep the virus at bay. She said that people affected by the virus need not panic as not everyone dies of the disease.
