Sushmita reflects spirit of Indira Gandhi: Priyanka

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 16 - AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that All India Mahila Congress president and Congress MP Sushmita Dev reflects the spirit of Indira Gandhi.

While Priyanka is well and truly aware of her perception among the people of the country as a shadow of her grandmother, she chose to cajole the voters of Silchar by drawing a parallel between the dynamic leadership skills and enthusiam between Indias first female Prime Minister and Sushmita Dev while addressing a road show here ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha election slated to be held on April 18.

I have seen closely how Sushmita works even in New Delhi and I decided to come for her. She embodies the workaholic spirit of Indiraji. She has dynamic leadership skills and can work for echoing the voices from Silchar. Sushmita is an honest and committed leader of the Congress party with high ideologies, Priyanka said at Rangirkhari during her road show.

The AICC general secretary who was in her first major political campaign outside Uttar Pradesh also reminded the people how the Cachar Paper Mill, which in her words was running in excellent condition during the Congress regime, was shut down during the BJP tenure.

She slammed the BJP for its flawed policies which lacks the intent to usher in development.

There is enough daylight between the PMs promises and the reality, which is hurting the citizens. He reached out to hug leaders of foreign nations, but has no time to spare for the farmers at home, she quipped.

Priyanka was seen offering prayers at the Kanchakanti Temple and also posed for selfies with youngsters during her visit here.

It may be recalled that back in the late 70s, Indira Gandhi in her address in Silchar had termed the southern Assam region as an Island of Peace.
