Sushma initiative helps State girl

NEW DELHI, July 6 - A special initiative by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj led to prompt release of a 20-year-old Guwahati girl Aradhana Barooah who is studying medical science in Ukraine. She was detained by authorities in Istanbul airport.

Barooah was on her way to Guwahati on summer vacation via Istanbul when she was detained for not possessing transit visa. Her parents in Assam later tweeted seeking Sushma Swaraj�s help for her release.

Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora tweeted that Aradhana Barooah, daughter of one of his officers, has been detained in Istanbul airport. �Kindly help,� he appealed following which the External Affairs Minister promptly directed the Indian Embassy in Istanbul.

Swaraj tweeted: �Rajeev Kulshreshtha � Why is she detained at Istanbul airport? Pl help this girl. @Indian Embassy.� She further tweeted that Aradhana left Istanbul for India via Dubai and alternate travel arrangements made for her in consultation with her family. �Aradhana had a visa problem. We will try to resolve baggage problem tomorrow,� the External Affairs Minister tweeted.

Moloy Bora later talking to this newspaper over telephone confirmed that Barooah has reached India safely and her baggage that got left behind is being sorted out.
