Suren Talukdar bags Sahitya Akademi prize

IMPHAL, Aug 20 - Sahitya Akademi translation prizes for the year 2015 were awarded to 24 translators of English and different Indian languages at a function held at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium here, a press release said.

Prof Suren Talukdar of Guwahati won the prize for translating Tarasankar Bandopadhyay�s Jnanpith award winning novel �Ganadevata� into Assamese. Dhanshiri Swargiary received the translation award for rendering into Bodo language the Bangla novel �Aranyer Adhikar� by Mahasweta Devi.

The Manipuri translation award was bagged by N Khagendra Singh. Awards were also presented for translation works into Bengali, Hindi, Kashmiri, Nepali, Punjabi, Santhali, Sanskrit, etc.

Viswanath Prasad Tiwari, president of Sahitya Akademi gave away the awards on August 4, the first day of the three day programme held in Imphal. Eminent Gujarati writer Raghuveer Chaudhari delivered the ceremonial address while secretary of Sahitya Akademi Dr K Sreenivasa Rao conducted the programme, according to the press release.
