Suranjeta, Marisha win doubles title

GUWAHATI, June 9 � The Assam pair of Suranjeta Saikia and Marisha Dutta fought for 90 minutes in an exiting doubles final match to win over AV Rithika of Tamil Nadu and Sweta Sen of West Bengal 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 and lifted the girls U-18 doubles title in the Aita Championship Series Tennis Tournament at the Chachal complex here today.

Arkashis Talukdar of Assam and Vishu Prasad of Delhi claimed the boys U-18 doubles title getting the better of Arcish Borthakur and Amlanjyoti Baruah 6-4, 6-0.

Wild card entrant Sumaiya Begum of Assam stormed into the finals of the girls U-18 singles event with a convincing 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over her State mate Priyana Kalita and will now meet B Moulika Ram Of Andhra Pradesh who won over Protiksha Sharma 6-6, 6-2 in the second semifinal that concluded today. In the boys singles, local boy Sidhant Deka lost his steam and went down to Aditya Deswal of Uttar Pradesh 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 while the late fight brought in by Icirabe Salie of Nagaland was not enough to take him through and lost to Surya Pawan of Andhra Pradesh 0-6, 6-7(2).

Parikshit Somani of Assam had a comfortable win over Md Vali of Maharastra 6-2, 6-4 to set up a title clash with Vishu Prasad of Delhi who beat Manash Pratim Kuli of Assam 6-1, 7-5. The girls U-14 finals will be between top seed B Moulika Ram of Andhra Pradesh and P Srivani Rao also of Andhra Pradesh when they won their respective matches against two State girls Protiksha Sharma 6-3, 6-2 and Jayati Sharma 6-0, 6-2 in the two semifinals that was played today.
