GUWAHATI, Sep 1 - The All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) has extended its support to the nationwide general strike called on September 2 by trade unions and employees organisations.

In a statement, AICCTU Assam State committee president Biren Kalita and general secretary Pankaj Kumar Das said that the Narendra Modi-led government, which came to power promising acche din for the common people, had taken policies against the interests of the poor and middle-classes.

They said that on the one hand the Central government had failed even to control prices and on the other hand it was attempting to hand over the countrys resources to big corporate houses.
