Sunfeast Cup football in city from Nov 22

GUWAHATI, Oct 21 - The Guwahati edition of the Sunfeast Cup Football Tournament will be held at the Nehru Stadium here from November 22 to 25.

The Aizawl (October 4 to 8) and Imphal (October 12 to 16) editions of the tournament are already completed while the Shillong edition got off on October 19.

The tournament has been organised by SPT Sports Management Pvt Ltd with an intention to spot football talents in the Northeastern region. The tournament will also be organised at Agartala and Itanagar. The finals among the champions of all the editions will be held here on December 5-6.

Informing about the championship, Paritosh Wali, COO-Confection, ITC Ltd Foods Division said in a press conference here today that NE has natural football talents and to spot the talents they are organising the tournament for U-13 and U-16 boys. To create awareness for the game they are organising the tournament in all the States of the NE region.

Amit Saran, CEO SPT Sports said, teams from rural areas are also taking part in the tournament which is a positive side. In Aizawl 64 teams took part while it was 48 in Imphal. In the Shillong edition also 41 teams are vying for the title. He further revealed that last year 250 teams took part in the meet while 300 teams are participating this year. A total scholarship money of Rs 1.5 lakh is at stake in the tournament.

Director of Sports Pabitra Ram Khound assured all possible help for hosting the tournament while SAI director Subhash Basumatary shared his opinion on the game in Northeast.
