GUWAHATI, July 3 - With summer break in schools having started, a number of summer workshops and camps being organised in Guwahati are gaining popularity with children seizing the opportunity to get a break from the regular academic work and get engaged in creative activities.
A four-day summer workshop �The Essentials� organised by Headway got under way at the Assam State Museum today. The event commenced with a storytelling session for juniors on detectives and mysteries, which was conducted by Indrani Deb. The kids participated with great enthusiasm and�won many prizes for their efforts.
The session for the seniors on health basics started at 11 am with basic information on health issues by Dr Pooja Banerjee of Apollo Hospital.
Dr Shabbir Khan of GMCH then gave an extremely informative lecture on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and went on to demonstrate in detail the procedure. Several students as well as parents, who had also been invited for the CPR demo, were then called on stage to try out the process.
Headway director, Neetu Sarawgi said that 92 students participated on day one of the workshop. �Summer workshops not just offer an opportunity to unwind and get engaged in creative activities, they offer great fun-filled learning that aptly complements the academic learning and helps in personality development,� she added.
Samridhi in collaboration with Shishu Sarothi also organised a three-day summer camp on the Shishu Sarothi premises that concluded today. This summer camp was held especially for children with disabilities.
Samridhi is an association formed by mothers of children with disabilities, with a motive to build a secure and brighter future for their children. Samridhi lends voice to the issues of such children, fighting for their fundamental rights to livelihood.
With a vision to make the children learn basic livelihood skills to grow and to become independent enough to have some source of income to lead a dignified life, Samridhi helps the children gain financial independency. Promoting social inclusion through recreational activities, the summer camp offered a platform to the special children to perform, to interact and to understand the importance of indulging in social activities.
Fun activities such as aerobics, craft, music, food, etc., were organised during the three-day event. Former student of Shishu Sarothi, Anjan Jyoti Sarma was acknowledged and awarded for his academic success in the HSLC Examination this year.
Pronoy Bordoloi, Nitumoni Saikia, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Jayanta Das, Bhrigu Kashyap, Nimi Bordoloi and Monmoromi Mahanta were among those who visited the camp.
