TEZPUR, Oct 25 � The summary revision of the electoral rolls for Sonitpur district has got under way with the base date as January 1, 2015. The draft electoral rolls have already been released. Claims and objections, which are being accepted from October 15, will be entertained till November 10, while the relevant part of the rolls will be read out in gram sabha or local body meets so that electors can find out if there is any error. The dates for this have been fixed on October 17 and 30.
A meeting was held recently at the DC�s conference hall here in the presence of the representatives of different political parties. Sonitpur DC Lalit Gogoi highlighted the process of the summary revision in the meeting. He informed the gathering that the administration has taken up special measures to make the people aware of the process of the summary revision.
A meeting with booth-level agents of political parties was also held to receive claims and objections on October 19 and a similar meeting will be held on November 2. The base date will be updated by December 20. The final electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2015.
The DC, who is also the Election Officer of the district, pointed out that the Election Commission of India has made photos of electors mandatory and therefore, the name of any elector will not be admissible if no photo is submitted. He informed that the position of the Sonitpur district with regard to the enclosure of photos on the elector�s photo identity cards (EPICs) is satisfactory. He added that the Election Commission would try to make the EPICs free from errors.
The meeting was attended by Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, Circle Officer, Chardwar Revenue Circle, and Dr Sahidur Rahman, Circle Officer, Tezpur Revenue Circle, among others.
