GOSSAIGAON, April 29 - Sugarcane cultivators of greater Tulshibil area under Gossaigaon subdivision have sought compensation from the government as they could not harvest mature sugarcanes due to the lockdown and the rain and stormy weather.

Sugarcanes should have been harvested at the time, the lockdown was imposed but that could not be carried out due to obvious reason. The cultivation was also affected and hampered due to incessant rainfall with the western winds lashing the standing crops and damaging them.

Cultivation was done widely on a commercial basis covering thousands of bighas of land at Panijani part 1, part-2 and at Kumguri village under Bhowraguri Revenue Circle. The mature sugarcanes are still lying on the fields. These cannot be sold now. All the sugarcane cultivation of the whole area has gone waste.

Cultivators Saker Ali, Sattar Ali, Akbar Ali, Ismail Hussain, Hamid Ali, Monirul Hoque of Panijani village and Abdul Halim Mazumder, Selimuddin Shekh, Amir Hamza, Lal Mamud, Monser Ali, all cultivators of Kumguri village have urged for help briefing the Circle Officer of Bhowraguri Revenue Circle about their fate and for government assistance to them. But no help has been received by these farmers till today.
