Sudhakantha�s statue unveiled

RANGIYA, Sept 10 - A statue of Sudakhanta Dr Bhupen Hazarika was unveiled here at the Society Chowk near NH 31 of Rangiya coinciding with his birth anniversary on Saturday last.

The statue was unveiled by renowned Assamese singer Dwipen Baruah in presence of Assam Police DGP and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr Kula Saikia, a social worker and a founder of literary body Swar Gosthi Girish Kalita, former Education Minister Thaneswar Boro, former local MLA Ananta Deka and other leading citizens and cultural lovers of the locality.

In his inaugural speech, Dwipen Baruah recollected his memories with Dr Bhupen Hazarika and the intimate time he had spent with the Sudhakantha. Baruah sung a few evergreen titles as a mark of respect to Bhupen da making the audience feel nostalgic. Later, coinciding with the occasion, DGP Saikia who is a son of the locality was given a warm public felicitation by different organisations including Swar Gosthi, Rangiya Press Club, Rangiya Alochani Sabha, Aryabhatta Science Society, Prabhati Kiron NGO, besides many other organisations. The DGP in speech paid his deep tributes to Dr Hazarika and shared his own experiences while meeting the former during his college days in Delhi.
