DOOMDOOMA, Sept 8 - The 89th birth anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was celebrated here today. Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) observed the day at Saraswati Balika Prathamik Vidyalaya, Doomdooma.
The headmistress of the school Renu Chutia offered floral tributes at the portrait of the Sudhakantha. A meeting was held under the presidentship of DSSS president Arjun Baruah and it was addressed by poet Golok Deka and subject teacher of Hoonlal HS School Mrigen Saikia. Jesmin Mohan, an assistant teacher of the school also addressed the meeting. The students of the school presented a few of Sudhakantha�s songs. In the evening, another cultural programme was organised in DSSS Bhawan.
The day was also observed at Learners� High School near here where the director of the school Varghese Panjikaran offered floral tributes at the portrait of Sudhakantha and lit the earthen lamp. The headmaster of the school briefed the students about the life and works of Sudhakantha. A few songs of Sudhakantha were presented by some students of the school.
