DIBRUGARH, Nov 5 � The National Service Scheme unit of DHSK Commerce College in association with the Department of Accounting and Finance of the College observed the 3rd death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at college library.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp followed by floral tributes at the portrait of the music maestro. The programme was presided over by Nasim Wajid Ali, vice principal of the college.
Brajendra Pathak, radio artiste and former student of the college attended the function as the chief guest. He spoke on various facets of the great singer and musician. Dhurbajyoti Dutta, singer and former student of the college was another invited guest for the event. Dutta spoke on life and work of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Keshabananda Haloi, Assistant Professor, Department of Accounting and Finance of the college also spoke on the life of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and his role in uniting and awaking the people with the help of music.
Sailen Gogoi, Associate Professor, Head of the Department, Accounting and Finance and Programme Officer, NSS unit of the college also addressed the gathering.
Nasim Wajid Ali, the vice principal in his presidential address called upon the students to draw inspiration from the works of Sudhakanta Dr Bhupen Hazarika. He said that the music maestro had brought about social renaissance in the State through music. His efforts and contributions towards music and culture of the State must be acknowledged.
Floral tributes were also paid to the doyen of music at Lahoal College in Lahoal. Thousands of people from around the college joined the educational institute to pay homage to Dr Hazarika on his 3rd death anniversary during a special function organised within the college.

Personae Dr. Bhupen Hazarika� organised on the occasion of 3rd death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by the Information and Public Relation Department, Government of Assam and in association with Sonitpur district administration at Haleswar Uttar Anchalick Sanskritick Sangha auditorium near here today further said that Dr Hazarika known for his baritone voice and diction, his lyrics, poetic compositions and parables which touched on themes ranging from romance to social and political commentary, his composition, use of folk music was not only an individual, rather he was an organisation who tried to go deep into the issue of bringing the world community into a same umbrella of brotherhood through his unbeatable voice and way of work.
In the programme, Minister for Information and Public Relations, Government of Assam, Basanta Das speaking on the occasion declared that a full size statue would be set
up in every constituency of the State to keep alive the dignity of the great cultural legend. Prior to it, DC, Sonitpur, Lalit Gogoi in his welcome address said that there is such any person who has given such contribution to the Assamese society during his life time who could keep people united through music.
Barpeta Correspondent: Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was remembered on his third death anniversary in diffrerent parts of the district. Various functions were arranged by clubs, NGOs and educational institutions.
The foundation stone of as many as eleven Dr Bhupen Hazarika memorial open stage and park were laid in eleven development blocks of the district. According to the information provided by Mahmud Hassan project director of District Rural Development Agency DRDA local artiste Chandra Kanta Roy laid the foundation stone of this project at Dakshin Rehabari in Manikpur gaon panchayat under Bajali development block. Debeswar Choudhiry, a leading citizen and mouzadar of Paka mouza laid the foundation stone for Barpeta development block at Rampur Chowk under Pub Paka gaon panchayat. The foundation for Bhawanipir development block was laid by Abdur Meser Dewan near Uttar Barpeta Senior College at Dhanbandha.
The foundation for Chakchaka development block was laid by Malin Medhi in Kamargaon gaon panchayat campus. Potambar Roy laid the foundation for Chenga development block at Sakardev Bhari Dhua Ghat Niz Chenga. Uttam Chandra Pathak laid the foundation for Gobardhana development block at Gobardhana Higher Secondary School campus under Gobardhana gaon panchayat. The project for Gomafulbari will be built at Bishnuour under Barbila gaon panchayat and the foundation was laid by Sudhir Ojah. Unnetun Nessa a local artiste of Mandia area laid the foundation for Mandia development block at Mandia Anchalik College. Kayakuchi Junior College campus will house the stage under Paka Betbari development block the foundation for which was laid by the president of Paka Betbari Anchalik Panchayat. Rupsi development will build the stage within its own campus and the foundation was laid by Nurul Islam.
The Sarukshetri development block will build its stage at Sarukshetri High School campus and the foundation stone was laid by Abhay Barman an advocate and artiste. Project director DRDA Barpeta Mahmud Hassan and several other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
Addressing a meeting held on this occasion Hassan highlighted about the life and works of the legendary artiste and said that his death has undoubtedly created a void in cultural arena of the State.
Raha Correspondent: The third death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed at Raha by various organisations and educational institutions with day-long programmes. The Raha unit of AASU and AJYCP jointly observed the Sudhakantha�s death anniversary by holding a shraddhanjali programme.
An all religious prayer was also held on the occasion. A Bhupendra sangeet programme and a Nagara naam was also organised in the afternoon.
The Matsya Byabasayee Santha of Raha town also observed the day with day-long programme. The business community paid floral tributes at Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s portrait and organised a function for the rendition of the bard�s evergreen songs by local singers.
Silchar Correspondent: The Asam Sahitya Sabha Silchar unit today remembered its most beloved music icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his third death anniversary. The Sabha observed the day by homage-paying ceremonies and cultural function.
In a function at the Gandhi Bhawan, people offered floral tributes at the portrait image of the Bard. Nijora Das, principal BSC Nursing College Silchar lighted the lamp to begin the evening�s proceedings. In his introductory lecture Sanjib Deblaskar, an academician touched on the life and works of Dr Hazarika saying that people love to idolize the great singer and the great human being. In the session chaired by Jiten Medhi, president Asam Sahitya Sabha Silchar, Joydip Biswas, faculty at the Cachar College unveiled a souvenir �Sudhakantha� brought out by the Sabha. In his address Biswas said that Dr Hazarika has touched hearts of everyone who loves music and humanity. He said that Dr Hazarika is not just for the Assamese but for the whole nation and the entire globe.
Sanjib Gohain Baruah, Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj was the chief speaker of the evening. In his address Baruah said that it is difficult to scale the Bard who was a time in himself. The music and the creation of Dr Hazarika has made an eternal place in the hearts and minds of every native of the state and of the country.
