Sudhakanta award

NAGAON, Oct 23 � Well known singer and lyricist Ranjan Bezbaruah has been selected for the Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Bota for this year. The award, instituted by the Jorhat-based sociocultural organisation, �Ur Ur Ur Ur Aprabadi Ur�, will be presented in a function to be held on November 5, synchronising with the death anniversary of Dr Hazarika.

Ranjan Bezbaruah has translated a number of songs composed by Srimanta Sankardev, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Laksminath Bezbaroa and Bhpen Hazarika into Sanskrit and also presented those songs. His also came out with an audio album titled Mriganayana having such songs in 2011. This followed another audio album billed Sagar Sangamat. Bezbaruah has performed these Sanskrit numbers in different parts of the country.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Bhupen Hazarika had personally congratulated Ranjan Bezbaruah for this unique contribution of his in the cultural field of Assam. The award will be presented to Ranjan Bezbaruah by well-known writer Dr Bhola Gogoi. The award consists of a citation, memento, sarai, gamocha and an amount of cash.
