Subodh Goswami passes away

GUWAHATI, March 16 � Noted sports organiser Subodh Goswami died at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital at the wee hours today.

The 64-year old Goswami was suffering from heart related disease for the last few weeks and was hospitalised after suffering a severe heart attack. He succumbed of the disease and exhaled his last breath today.

He was the assistant secretary of the Assam Football Association and served Maharana Athletic Club since 1968 with various capacities including secretaryship.

Goswami travelled throughout the State in search of football talents. He inducted players from various places in Maharana Club which was like his second home. He was very popular among the football fraternity during 1970s to 1990s for his close association with the organising aspects of the game.

A former staff of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Goswami was very popular among colleagues for his amiable disposition and sincerity in the official works.

He was also associated with various social organisation in the Beltola area where he settled after shifting from his original home at Sukleswar.

His body was taken to Maharana Athletic Club premises where the cub members and other admirers, including former international Taibun Nesha paid floral tributes to him.

He leaves behind his mother, wife and three daughters. The Guwahati Sports Association and Maharana AC kept their flags half mast in his honour. His last rites were performed at Nabagrah crematorium this afternoon.
