HAFLONG, April 30 - Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), on Wednesday conveyed his gratitude to the people for their cooperation during the COVID-19 crisis.

Addressing the media on the occasion of the 69th foundation day of the oldest council in the country, Gorlosa said, This year, for the first time, since the beginning of the NCHAC in 1952, we decided not to have any celebration as the nation is facing the threat of this dangerous pandemic.

Usually, this day is celebrated in a grand way as it is one of the most important days for the North Cachar Hills region, but this year, the occasion was overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic, Gorlosa said.

He expressed his gratitude to the people who drafted the Constitution of India, including Indias first Law Minister Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in the drafting of the Constitution, and kept in mind the people of every group and community across the nation.

Gorlosa said he was happy that he got an opportunity to serve the people of the district as the CEM. During his second term as the CEM, his Cabinet prioritised five aspects for the betterment of the people of Dima Hasao roads, water supply, health care, electricity and education.

Every year, during the monsoon, people especially in Haflong and Umrangso face acute shortage of water, he said, adding that he was hopeful that the work undertaken under a special package will help overcome this water crisis to a certain extent by next year.

Expressing happiness over the work undertaken during his tenure, Gorlosa said he was confident that the district will be in a much better position in the years to come.
