Subdivisional court at Lakhipur

SILCHAR, Nov 20 - Lakhipur was declared a subdivision of Cachar district way back in 1992. And on the eve of 25 years, people of the subdivision witnessed the opening of the sub-divisional court on Saturday.

The new court was formally inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Ajit Singh in the presence of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Suman Shyam, Cachar Deputy Commissioner S Vishwanathan, Sub-Divisonal officer JR Lalsim, Cachar SP Rakesh Roushan, president of Silchar Bar Association Chunilal Bhattacharjee and chairperson of Lakhipur Muncipal Board Rimi Paul.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice said �the court will have two judges Jhannabi Devi and Mrinal Newpane. The court will start functioning from Monday.�

It may be mentioned that the subdivision also has a sub-treasury for which there were constant demands since a long time.

Later, the Chief Justice and two other judges took part in a function at the District Bar Association at Silchar wherein they were accorded warm felicitation. Also, the association members raised demands to set up a High Court bench at Silchar in the greater interest of the people here.
