DUNI, Aug 11 - The citizens of greater west Darrang area have demanded the State Government to constitute a new subdivision covering all the villages of entire Pathorighat Revenue Circle area in order to bring administration machinery close to the rural populace.
Duni, a politically and culturally rich ancient place is the central juncture of all aspects of greater west Darrang area.
According to one of legends, Duni derived its name from the mythological character Guru Dronacharya who was the archery teacher of Hastinapur. People here still believe that once Guru Dronacharya visited Duni, and then this extensive river bank-side area situated between the Kalpani and the Dimila was known as Duni. Though Duni is now a revenue village, it covers the entire area from Pathorighat to Balikuchi.
However, Duni has a glorious bright past. Historic Khatara Satra, Mahariparas Sri Sri Rudeswar Devalaya, Padmathan etc., are the famous religion institutions of greater Duni area. Though there are several commercial places locally called chowk in greater west Darrang area. Among those places Dipila, Gabhara-Dalangghat, Rajghat, Bherua, Barbari, Burha, Bisnupur etc., have been growing commercially developed day by day. So, Duni has now become the main junction of education, culture, commerce, politics etc.
Yet, due to lack of comfortable surface communication systems, particularly between the interior villages and the district head quarter, most of the people here especially poorer and weaker section could not avail the expected benefits from the welfare schemes implemented by the government departments time to time. That is why, for the benefit of aforesaid section of poor people subdivision office is essential in Duni.
The greater west Darrang area is a thickly populated place. Except some Bodo people, all inhabitants are the Hindu and the Muslim. BTAD is situated to the north of the aforesaid farmer dominated area. So, it will be a far-sighted effort to bring the high level administrative offices close to this kind of border places for handling all sorts of administrative related developmental activities speedily and timely. As such, number of crime and anti social activities is also not very small in the area. On the other hand the area is located at enough far from national highway from Sipajhar and Bihata Chariali.
The historic religious institutions like famous ponds, religious places, prestigious folk-lore, multi-culoured cultural element, availability of endanger species like tortoise, snake-fish, vulture, wild-cat, iguana and other noted natural heritage will come to focus for tourism line, if a new subdivision is formed in west Darrang area. Both the home and foreign tourists will also be attracted to this place which positively may be earning sources for new generation in future.
Meanwhile, before taking mass agitation-programme to the demand of a new Subdivision, present State Government should come forward in this respect for keeping the close contact between the administration departments and public which can improve law and order situation, concrete infrastructure, communication, commerce, life style, peace, unity, harmony etc.
