Subansiri project reports with NGT: Govt

NEW DELHI, April 10 - Detailing the status of the Subansiri (Lower) hydroelectric power project, the Centre today clarified that both the reports of the Project Oversight Committee (POC) have been submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Minister of State for Power and Coal Piyush Goyal said after having examined both the reports, the Centre has decided to endorse the report submitted by the expert members nominated by Government of India (GoI). Both the POC reports have been submitted to the NGT, duly endorsing the POC (GoI) report, vide its affidavit filed before the NGT on August 24, 2016, he said in reply to a question by Congress MP Ranee Narah.

The NHPC has taken up river bank protection measures in Assam up to 30 km downstream of the dam at a cost of Rs 145 crore, of which Rs 35 crore has been released during 2016-17. To control/maintain the downstream of Subansiri in Assam, three projects � Subansiri Upper Project, Subansiri Middle Project and Subansiri Lower Project � have been envisaged as cascade development of the river in Arunachal Pradesh.
