NAGAON, Feb 20 - Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain presented the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Awards to 1224 students at a function held at the District Library auditorium here yesterday. The programme, which was organised by the Nagaon district Education Department, saw participation of guardians, teachers and other dignitaries.
While presenting the awards, Gohain appealed to the pupils to dedicate themselves in building a healthy society free from hatred. �In the era of globalisation, our students should adopt modern technology so that they can compete at the international level,� he said. Referring to the contributions of Anundoram Borooah towards Assamese literature, he urged the youths to follow his ideals for the development of the State. �The BJP-led Government has already taken up a slew of schemes for the students which will help in building their career in the days to come,� he claimed.
MLA Rupak Sarma graced the occasion as the guest of honour, while Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon, Jadav Saikia presided over the awards distribution function.
Our Correspondent from Barpeta adds: President of the State unit of the BJP and MLA from Sarbhog constituency Ranjit Kumar Dass urged upon the students to work for development of the State.
Participating in the Anundoram Borooah Award distribution function here on Wednesday, he underscored the need for quality education instead of searching high degrees.
�Our students need to adopt quality education so that they can build a good society,� he said, adding that the State Government has accorded priority to the education sector by way of new methods.
Referring to the Citizenship Bill, the president asserted that it would not affect the indigenous people of the State. �We are committed to safeguarding the people of the State and I am confident that the Bill will not hit the indigenous people,� he reiterated.
Jyotshnarani Barman, Inspector of Schools of Barpeta district also spoke on the occasion. Laptops were provided to the meritorious students at the function.
In his address, Dr Prakash Sarma, Principal of Madhab Choudhury College said that the State Government has taken a number of measures to improve the standard of education which will definitely help the education sector to a large extent.
In his presidential address, Munindra Sarma, Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta, narrated the present education scenario around the globe and requested the students to make themselves compatible with the growing trend of science and technology.
Veteran academician and writer Akshyay Kumar Mishra, ex-Principal of MC College, Arjun Chandra Das, Barkshetri MLA Narayan Deka, Director of APGCL Sankar Das, AIDC vice chairman Jitu Talukdar and ADC Sadhan Kumar Sarkar also attended the function.
