GUWAHATI, May 30 � A higher pass percentage in all the streams � Arts, Science and Commerce � marked the results of Higher Secondary Final�Examination-2014 conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
The Arts stream (73.91 per cent) recorded a slight increase in the pass percentage compared to 2013 (70.11 per cent) and 2012 (70.23 per cent). The pass percentage in Science stream at 85.31 also witnessed a marginal increase in comparison to the previous year (83.82 per cent). In the Commerce stream also, the pass percentage at 82.70 marked an increase compared to 2013 (80.08 per cent) and 2012 (81.17 per cent).
With an aggregate of 471 out of 500, Diganta Dutta of Anjali Borbora Memorial Academy, Barpathar in Golaghat topped the Arts stream, while Rupasmita Devi of Pragjyotika Jr College, Titabor, was the topper in the Science stream with an aggregate of 478 out of 500. Bineeta Jain of Gauhati Commerce College topped the Commerce stream by securing an aggregate of 465 out of 500.
A total of 2,03,513 students appeared in the Arts stream; 27,452 in Science stream and 16,402 in Commerce stream.
On the other hand, the district-wise breakup of the result in the Arts stream this year showed that the districts which are frequently hit by natural calamities have fared better, with Dhemaji recording a pass percentage of 91.66 and Lakhimpur recording a pass percentage at 87.71. The district that has recorded the lowest pass percentage is Chirang with 44.96.
Among the districts which did well in the Science stream are Hailakandi (95.64 pc), Darrang (94.97 pc), Dhemaji (93.80 pc), Jorhat (93.75 pc), Dibrugarh ((92.62 pc) and Lakhimpur (91.61 pc). Udalguri has recorded the lowest pass percentage of 68.23.
In the district-wise performance report for Commerce, Dhemaji again has surpassed all other districts by recording a pass percentage at 99.43, followed by Dima Hasao at 95.00, Barpeta at 94.36 and Lakhimpur at 92.26. Kokrajhar has scored the lowest with a pass percentage of 49.60. Another district, Chirang has no first division holder.
The pass percentage of the HS Final Year Examination for the Vocational stream is 73.78, which is a slight dip to the pass percentage of 73.90 recorded in 2013 and 77.59 recorded in 2012. A total of 1,232 students had appeared for the exam.
