By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, May 10 - Students of Ouguri High School in Chirang district staged a protest demonstration at the school premises on Thursday and demanded action against the rape accused and justice for the victim, who happens to be their school mate.

The victim who is about 12-years-old (a minor) gave birth to a premature dead baby on May 6 in a hospital in the district.

Her family subsequently lodged a report about the crime on April 25 at Nangolbhanga outpost under Amguri Police Station.

After receiving the report, police arranged a medical test which confirmed 6 month pregnancy of the victim and accordingly a case No.14/2019 under Section 376 AB of IPC read with 6 of POCSO Act, 2012 against name accused Ishan Narzary, a resident of Pub Maopar in Ouguri area.

We will match the DNA sample of the newborn as soon as we nab the accused who has been absconding, Chirang Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh told the media.

Since the accused is an affluent person and associated with the ruling Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), police is allegedly lenient about him, local people felt.

While the victim is the daughter of a poor wage earner, hence justice might be like a dream for her, the local residents opined. In the backdrop of such a situation, seeking justice for the minor, the school students staged a protest demonstration on Thursday.
